Teaching Place Value With Grouping

Place Value with Grouping

Place Value with Grouping

Have you ever asked a child to pick up his or her toys, or to clean up a large mess only to find a frustrated child?  There are times that simple tasks to an adult seem completely daunting to a child.  One of those concepts is often place value.  When dealing with place value it is helpful to show how grouping can actually make the task of counting easier.  This type of scaffolding helps the student get to a point where they can deal with place value and make attempts at mastering it instead of being afraid of it.

Teaching place value is much easier when students learn to group the hundreds together, the tens together and the ones together. Having a strong foundation in place value helps with adding large numbers (we have a video on this as well). Please check out our videos. Thank you.

Just an FYI – as you watch the video if any of the animations seem a little off it is because I learned on this video but we think it turned out really well. Enjoy!
